A Guide to Moving Home on the Sunshine Coast
Moving house can feel like juggling boxes, checklists, and chaos — all while trying to stay sane.
Whether you’re upsizing, downsizing or just chasing a new view, a smooth move starts with a solid plan. Here on the Sunshine Coast, we’re lucky to have beautiful surrounds and a lifestyle that makes the effort worthwhile. So, to help make the transition easier, we’ve pulled together a few local-friendly tips.
Start with a plan (and a cuppa)
First things first — make yourself a list. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but writing down what needs doing (and when) can save you from last-minute panic. Things like booking your removalists, redirecting your mail, and organising utilities all take longer than you think.
Tip: Don’t forget to label your boxes by room — future you will be grateful.
Local help makes a big difference
If you’re making the move within the region, you’ll want removalists who know the Sunshine Coast like the back of their hand. From tight driveways in Buderim to beachfront units in Coolum, local knowledge can save time (and your furniture). There are plenty of experienced Sunshine Coast removalists who offer everything from packing to full-service moves — it’s worth getting a couple of quotes and asking about insurance options too.
Insider’s tip: “Most people assume the cheapest quote is the best option,” says Ed Burton, CEO of Upmove, a platform where you can find and book trusted removalists. “But what they don’t always realise is that a lower price can sometimes mean shared truck space or flexible delivery windows. Always ask if your move will be part of a backload — it can save you money, but it’s not for everyone.”
Declutter before you pack
Moving is the perfect excuse for a good clear-out. Donate, sell, or recycle anything you don’t love or use. Not only will you have fewer boxes to unpack, but you’ll also feel lighter starting fresh in your new home. Local op shops in Maroochydore, Noosa and Nambour are always grateful for donations in good nick.
Don’t pack the kettle
On moving day, keep a separate ‘essentials’ box — tea, mugs, loo roll, chargers, snacks, and maybe even a bottle of bubbles to celebrate when the last box is through the door. Trust us, you’ll need it.
Know your new neighbourhood
One of the best parts of moving on the Sunshine Coast is getting to know your new patch. Whether it’s strolling the Sunday markets, finding your favourite coffee spot, or meeting the neighbours at the beach — it doesn’t take long to feel at home here.
If you’re moving into one of our Haven listings, we’re always happy to point you towards local tradies, cleaners, or the best fish and chip spot nearby.
